Intro

This part of the wiki is meant to document the different things you can check if you are evaluating the correct workings of an emulator.

It is an overview of tests you can run on the emulators to see if they come close to the real thing.

The test case

Each test case contains the following sections

  1. setup needed
  2. The test result expected
  3. Most likely result if the emulator has not correctly implemented this behaviour
  4. An explanation why you should see this. This section contains the nitty gritty technical low level details as why the MSX produces the expected test result.

The setup needed contains things like

  • Hardware
    • Machine type: either generic MSX1,MSX2, MSX2+ or Turbo R or a specific brand/model that is to be emulated
    • Needed peripherals:
    • Audio chips
      • MSX-MUSIC
      • MSX-AUDIO
      • MB-Stereo
      • ...
    • Needed HW in slots
      • Konami games in slot1 and/or slot2
      • External memorry mapers
      • Slotexpanders
      • ...
