Description

RookieDrive BASIC is an extension that comes with the Rookie Drive interfaces. It consists of an USB virtual drive for the MSX computers that allows to connect pendrives or hard disks.

First version is Rookie Drive 720, then a second version has been developed as Rookie Drive NX.

The BASIC extension is automatically enabled when you use the Rookie Drive NX cartridge on a MSX1 computer. By default, when used on a MSX2 or higher computer, the version with Nextor driver will be launched. Note however that the Nextor driver requires 128kB RAM.

At boot time, you can “force” the loading of the diskette emulation version by pressing the “D” key ("7" key in firmware versions released before 13/09/2017) or the Nextor version by pressing the “N” key.

Besides the firmware ROM developed by Xavirompe, there are several variants of a special Disk-ROM, created by Konamiman. It's a standard MSX-DOS 1 Disk-ROM that allows using standard USB floppy disk drives, thus effectively turning Rookie Drive into an "old-school" MSX floppy disk controller with a few extra perks.
