Description

The Fujitsu FM-X (or MB25150 as indicated on the label) is one of the first MSX models to be released, and the only MSX computer ever made by Fujitsu. Fujitsu had another competing computer range, in the form of the FM-7, FM-8 and FM-77, which were based on a Motorola 6809 processor.

The FM-X has only 16kB RAM and lacks a printer interface. However, it is possible to add this interface and an additional 16kB RAM by inserting the Fujitsu MB22451 cartridge in the 60-pin expansion slot.

This slot can also be used to connect the FM-X to the FM-7 by inserting the Fujitsu MB22450 interface. This combination extends the capabilities of both computers.

This model has an internal speaker.

The official price is ¥49,800 (and ¥126,000 for the FM-7).

Specifications

The FM-X is a MSX1 with a Z80A from Zilog (Z08400A).

Although it has a standard Texas Instruments TMS9928ANL VDP, the RGB colors are different because an additional circuit reworks the palette to be the same as used on the Fujitsu FM-7. It's encoded in 3-bit RGB, reducing the palette from 16 colors to 8 colors.

When using the CVBS input of a monitor, the same color limitation can be seen, but the colors are even more different, very close to CGA or ZX-Spectrum.
