MegaSRAM is the term to designate a cartridge that contains SRAM mapped as a MegaROM with a battery or super capacity to keep the content even when the MSX is off.

It allows to execute ROM images exactly as the original cartridge with same Rom mapper, and according to the MegaSRAM type and software used, it allows the following things:

  • store ROM images, with the possibility to use a mapper different from the mapper of the original cartridge
  • store data (eg like the Game Master 2, etc)
  • execute ROM images exactly as the original cartridge in 80% of cases when ROM mapper is different (using patches)
  • execute DSK images converted to ROM (writing not possible)
  • create a SRAM disk usable on any MSX
  • keep the content even when the MSX is off two or three weeks

Note: Content stays longer when the cartridge is removed from the cartridge slot.
