The NMS 8250 is a professional computer made by Sanyo for the Dutch company Philips. The machine itself is basically the MPC-25 rebranded and localised for the European market. The abbreviation NMS stands for New Media Systems.

The computer is a desktop model with a modern and business-like design and features one built-in disk station. The color is dark silver and gray. A location is planned for the addition of a second disk drive.

The NMS 8250 was a very popular model in Europe, and is closely related to the Philips NMS 8255 which is essentially the same computer but features 2 disk drives. It's also very similar in looks with the NMS 8280.

This computer comes with 128kB RAM (not 256kB as indicated on the machine and the box by adding the VRAM). Three models were produced:

  • NMS 8250/00 for the Dutch and Belgian markets, keyboard layout is QWERTY
  • NMS 8250/16 for the Spanish market, keyboard layout is QWERTY with ñ key
  • NMS 8250/19 for the French market, keyboard layout is AZERTY

Three system disks are given with this computer, you can enjoy especially a drawing program in screen 8, called 'Designer Plus', an improved version of the 'Designer' utility provided with the VG-8230 and VG-8235.

Besides this tool, the system disks provide MSX-DOS1 with a nice interface and Home Office 2.

The NMS 8250 is an MSX2 with a Z80A from NEC (D780C-1) and an MSX-Engine S3527 from Yamaha.

This model is known for SCC (and other sound cards) mixing issues. There are several modifications fixing this, the opamp mod by Daemos and luppie not being the worst one.

The plastic front panel also gets very fragile with age. Special care must be taken when shipping that absolutely no stress is placed on the front panel.
