Description

The Sanyo MPC-11, a.k.a Wavy11, is the most ambitious MSX1 computer released by Sanyo with a focus on graphic creation, as it combines superimposing and 2-color digitizing with an integrated lightpen interface.

The machine has a separate keyboard with 88 keys and only one cartridge slot, but there's an expansion bus: it can be used as second cartridge slot with an adapter. It was sold with a lightpen (Y4AA) and a tape with Lightpen Graphics (ライトペングラフィックス).

Unit size: 408(W)x 86(H)x 351(L)mm
Unit weight: 4.5kg
Keyboard size: 380(W)x 42(H)x 185(L)mm
Keyboard weight: 1.2kg

Sanyo released also the MPC-X, a Graphic Expander Unit which an extra VDP that adds 4 bitmap modes with 16, 4 or 2 colors on a palette of 512, high-resolution, superimposing, still function and zooming and uses lightpen. This expander needs to be connected to the MEB-01 slot expander, itself connected to the expansion bus of the MPC-11.

The MPC-11 is provided with a RGB21 output. It was therefore recommended for correct encoding of drawn and/or superimposed pictures by using the MSI-01 Super Impose Encoder (¥23,000), eventually in combination with the MPC-X, before recording them on video tape.

This computer was officially viewed as Videotex terminal when the Sanyo MPC-CAP1 Captain Unit was also bought and received an additional label MPC-S1, meaning that it was ready for this extra using.

Note: The Sanyo MPC-11 can be used with or without the MPC-X Unit as it has itself superimposing and digitizing capacities. However, the MPC-X is required in combination with the MPC-11 if you want to use the computer as Videotex terminal or enjoy the extra features provided by the MPC-X.
